Truck Bumper

If you got it, a truck probably brought it- this is the how truckers often explain their role in the American economy. There is no doubt that the trucking industry is the lifeline that makes transportationof goods over long distances possible. Funnily, trucks were not very popular when they were first invented. People could not anticipate how useful these vehicles would be in transporting goods and services over long distances. Of course, bad roads and absence of mindset too were factors. The First World War changed things as the military requisitioned a large number of trucks and found them to be very useful. The Second World War saw auto makers manufacturing trucks specifically designed for military use.
A truck bumper is something that each and every truck, irrespective of its make and model, has. Of course, there are trucks that come without bumpers attached. However, the owner invariably purchases an aftermarket steel truck bumper and fits the same. Hence, bumpers are always found in trucks - from the earliest to the very modern.

The development that has taken place in the field off automotive designing is evident from the development of design and make of truck bumpers.

The earliest bumpers were just ordinary and heavy metal strips attached to the front and rear portion of the vehicle. The basic purpose of the bumper was to protect the front and the rear of the vehicle. As car designing became fancier and fancier, trucks too underwent a change. The user of chrome bumpers and shiny grilles in trucks too became common.

However, car makers and truck makers differed in one aspect. Car manufacturers weakened the bumpers to make it lighter and less expensive. However, truck manufacturers have always preferred heavier bumpers to protect the valuable engine. Further, the truck was considered utilitarian and it was not considered necessary to spend a lot of time making the truck look good.

It was only when plastic and carbon fiber began to be used in trucks in a big way that bumpers for trucks underwent a change. The metal bumper was shortened and carbon fiber was added to make it stronger. With bumper covers becoming very popular, the front and the rear of the truck were modified to give it a symmetrical and aesthetic look. However, one disadvantage of use of carbon fiber is that the bumper simply crumbles when a low speed impact takes place. Metal bumpers are dented and there is scope for repair. The same is not possible in case of a truck bumpers made out of carbon fiber.

The web has changed things even further. Today, it is possible to check out numerous bumper designs for your truck without even stepping out of your house. Bumper installation is no longer a specialist's job. All one has to do is follow the instructions and guides found online and the part can be purchased and installed without any difficulty.
